The Intersection of Race and Sexuality

The Netflix series, Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story, portrays the intersection on race and sexuality. This Netflix series is about a serial killer, Jeffery Dahmer who targeted black and brown victims and and killed and exploited them. Netflix originally tagged LGBTQ under this show for at least two days and was removed September 23rd because of the criticism from the LGBTQ community. The serial killer, Dahmer targeted men and boys mainly from the LGBTQ community so by categorizing the movie as LGBTQ, it gives the community a bad image and this made people upset and demanded it be taken down. Subscribers say that the term LGBTQ should be used to spread positive lights and given a good image and shows such “Sex Education” And “Heart Stopper” represent this type of image. Given that the serial killer, Dahmer is actually gay, tagging the movie under LGBTQ gives a bad representation for the LGBTQ community. The series is associated with horror, ominous, dark, and LGBTQ and led to a lot of controversies. Drawing on the intersection of race and sexuality, the serial killer, Dahmer is a good example of this multiple identities. Dahmer was a gay white man who was shunned and disregarded by society for being part of the LGBTQ community but he also received the priveledge of being a white man. This goes for a black gay man, he is disregarded by society for being gay and he is oppressed and discriminated against for being black and because of this Dahmer knew how the system of racism and homophobia worked and used it to his advantage by targeting mainly black and brown gay victims to evade arrest.
