The Netflix series, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, has received a lot of backlash and critiques from so many especially racialized people of color. This series shows how the serial killer took systematic racism to his advantage to target people of color mainly brown and black victims. The social media platform, tiktok and other social media platforms have taken the series to another level, we see families of victims revisit their trauma after so many years. We see another issue of how tiktok users romanticize about the serial killer and his gruesome actions, we see another disturbing video of how white content creators post video about how they are unbothered by the series and would watch it again because they feel like he did nothing wrong but just empathized with him, claiming he just had a mental illness and he should be free from all allegations. Unfortunately, many failed to address the issue of police prejudice and systematic racism that revolves around this series and the intersection of race, gender and sexuality in this very series. In the show, we see jeffery dahmer neighbor, a black woman, Glenda Cleveland who continously tried to call the police about murders of her neigbours, she heard screaming and crying from next door but she was totally ignored by the police until it was too late. Another scene in the movie showed black neighbors who called the cops after seeing a naked little boy bleeding and intoxicated right in front of dahmer building, Dahmer was questioned but police bought his explanation explaining that the boy was just his lover and too much to drink. The cops ended up sending the boy back to Dahmer and that was the last time the boy was ever seen. This shows how police prejudice and racism contributed to the death of these young brown and black men. As long as systematic racism is ingrained in our judicial system there will be more injustices and a lot of pain.
